Reportedly faster than Ronnie Peterson in the lower Formulae. Joined Team Lotus for the last two races of the 1970 season after Jochen Rindt's death to replace John Miles, who had been fired. Drove the fastest lap in the non-championship 1st heat of the 1971 Argentine GP. Was dropped at the end of 1971 after an uninspiring season, especially when compared to his team-mate Emerson Fittipaldi. He returned to Lotus for the Canadian and US races in 1972 after Dave Walker had been dropped for similar reasons.
