Was Team Lotus test driver when asked to deputise for an injured Nigel Mansell in 1982. Then went on to have an indistinguished F1 career at various back of the grid teams, including brief stints at Benetton and Jordan and being test driver for Williams, Ferrari and McLaren. Then had several years driving in CART.
After a year out, returns to CART in 2003 with Herdez Competition.
