Drove mainly in South Africa as a privateer and for Team Gunston, winning the South African Drivers' Championship every year between 1964 and 1969. Won the 1962 Britsh Saloon Car Championship in a Ken Tyrrell-run Mini Cooper. As a privateer, qualified fifth and finished second in the 1967 South African GP (at Kyalami) in a two year old Cooper T79 built for the Tasman Series. In 1968 became the first man to start an F1 race in commercial livery when he turned up to the South African GP with his Brabham in Gunston colours.
